Eagle Scout Service Project:

Jon did a Timber Stand Improvement project for the U.S.D.A. Forest Service. This consisted of clearing a section of forest underbrush, for fire safety and to improve the general appearance of the area.

In January 2000, he organized the troop to clear the dense brush and low branched from a one-third-of-an-acre section of pine and oak forest near Mt. Mooney in the Angeles National Forest.

Over a two-day period, Jon had twenty Scouts and thirteen adults, work on his project. By the end of the weekend the crew had exceeded Jon's original goal and cleared nearly half an acre. Jon's personal planning and organizing time totaled 45 hours, and the total man-hours including the full weekend of brush clearing was 576 hours.

Due to Jon's extensive Eagle Project, that section of the forest is now much more clear and enjoyable for hikers and campers, also greatly reducing the potential fire danger of the area.
