Eagle Scout Service Project:

Beamer's Eagle project was the extensive repair of a section of the Gabrielino National Recreational Trail in the Angeles National Forest near Switzer Falls.  During the course of seven days crews of 4 to 12 scouts and 2 to 4 adults assisted.  The crew hiked about a mile and a half each way to and from the project, sometimes with huge loads of tools and supplies.  Beamer and his crew worked a total of 846 hours planning and executing this project.

This section of the trail was vastly improved by the construction of multiple wire mesh retaining walls, extensive tread work (the smoothing and grading of a trail), and brushing to make the trail easier to travel.

The wall that were built will prevent water from eroding the trails for years to come.  Due to the increased width and brush clearance, mountain bikers, backpackers and people out for a day hike will have an easier and safer trail.

And, in Beamer's words, “Besides all that, this project was loads of fun and really got a big group of Scouts working together.”
