Eagle Scout Service Project:

Adam chose to improve a one-mile stretch of the Silver moccasin Trail in the Angeles National Forest. This though section of hiking trail had suffered significant erosion and overgrowth. He organized and led a team of over 30 Scouts and adults who performed more than 500 hour of combined work on the trail over a 2-day period. They removed dangerous yuccas, graded trail, built rock walls, repaired switchbacks and established French drains to prevent further erosion.

Weeks of planning and preparation were required for the project, and this was done under the supervision of the National Forest Service. Adam, John Horton (BSA High Adventure Team liaison to the National Forest Service) and Bill Cantle (Adam's Dad and Troop 8's Trail Boss) surveyed the trail and marked the repair areas. Adam monitored the crews and inspected the work to ensure all was being done correctly.

The repair of this popular hiking trail was an outstanding contribution of service to the community and the delicate natural environment of Southern California. Upon completion, the National Forest Service unconditionally approved the project.
